Why Name NFTs?

NFTR is the ENS of NFTs.

With ERC-6551, NFTs will become as active as wallets in web3. As identifiers, even more recognizable.

Naming an NFT creates simple reachability and unlocks immense utility.

Web3 Identity

With ERC-6551, web3 participants will identify primarily as NFTs, which gain immense utility via Token Bound Accounts. This allows merging of otherwise split web3 identities (across NFT visuals, web2 socials, and ENS names) into an NFT: a functional + identifiable web3 participant.

It will become common to act as NFTs in web3 environments. Unique names in a universal registry are essential to complete + reference these identities.

NFTR Utility

NFT Domains

An NFT named "John" has a Profile at john.nftr.name. This makes NFTs easily reachable and referable, as ENS has accomplished with wallets. NFTR domains will have embedded dApps and ERC-6551 functionalities, detailed below.

ERC-6551 Token Bound Account Support

Payments can be made directly to NFTs via their name. As such, named avatars in web3 games will be able to yield rewards directly to their NFTs.

NFTR Subdomains will provide access to ERC-6551 functionalities (such as john.nftr.wallet)

NFT Messaging

NFT messaging allows web3 users to engage differently depending on their associated network. Easily identifiable NFT names and direct p2p messaging facilitate direct contact regarding trade discussions, professional opportunities, and more. Encrypted off-chain with IPFS.

Endorsements + Branding

As NFTs become recognizable identifiers, these celebrity NFTs will be able to leverage NFTR to establish and display on-chain endorsements of set timeframes.

AdHoc NFT Groups

To date, NFT sub-communities are comprised of holders within a common collection. Relating NFTs by their NFTR names allows heterogenous groupings of NFTs to form. Nifter Groups can be used by DAOs, business members, private NFT societies, and brands to form an official cross-collection of NFTs. These Groups can be used then as the recipients of distributed revenue, weighed voting decisions, and more.

If your Nifter Name is on the list, you're in.

Names claimed by a particular collection can be easily aggregated. Verifying ownership of one of these names verifies NFT ownership, without wallet connection.

Composability

As a new on-chain primitive in web3, any dApp is able to leverage the universal NFT namespace in innovative ways to create new utility + value propositions.
